It’s time people Know the Law

The legal process can be a little mysterious and confronting at times. I developed Know the Law to address this. It’s all about empowering you with knowledge to help you make the right decisions for you.

Some background:

My name is Adam and I am an Australian lawyer working in Sydney. Over the course of my career, I’ve come across two major hurdles when it comes to unravelling the enigma of the legal system:

1. Finding good, reliable, free resources
2. Finding good, reliable (but unfortunately not free) lawyers!

Finding resources
There are some great resources out there for lawyers and their clients – you just need to pay subscription fees to access them. This can be expensive when you only want to figure out what to do about a single issue.

I’ve also found it hard to find a good source of reliable information on the internet, which is probably not too surprising! Many of the resources I found were written by other lawyers relying on heavy ‘legalese’. Nothing was written in plain English. Some were too academic and others were not-so-well-disguised sales pitches. It was all either complicated and confusing or so boring I switched off.

“Know the Law is about creating resources written in language that anyone can understand and use”

Finding lawyers
When I started practising, I excelled in my area of law expertise. But when it came to areas outside my speciality, I struggled to find capable and cost effective lawyers to assist me. I tried really hard, doing what anyone else would do; tried ‘word-of-mouth’ or by reading material online. But it wasn’t enough.

In this process, I dealt with all types of lawyers; some with bad fees, some with bad quality work and some were just plain bad!

Over time, I slowly connected with a number of great lawyers and built strong relationships with them. It took a while but I’ve now developed a network of competent, trustworthy and cost effective lawyers which I use, and continually add to.

“Through Know the Law, I would like to share my network with you”

Know the law
Together with some of my colleagues, I have written articles on this site to help people understand the different areas of the law.

The articles are general and informational only. They don’t take into account your circumstances. They are not a substitute for legal advice and I encourage you to seek this if you happen to be in a situation that requires it.

If you need help or further information, you are welcome to contact me. I’d be happy to introduce you to a lawyer in my network or help you myself. As the lawyers within my network get a fair bit of work from me, I’m able to get discounted rates which I’ll pass onto you. The only thing I’d ask in exchange is you let me know about your experience with them. I want to ensure the lawyers I use and refer are providing a quality service to my clients.

I hope you find what you need on Know the Law. If you don’t or have further article ideas, please contact me. I’m just an email away.
